The days are getting longer, the grass is getting greener and it’s beginning to warm up! We are ready for Spring. We rounded up 30 things to do with your family!

April Activities for Kids & Families

  1. Sign up your kids for summer camp! Check out our Summer Camp Guide.
  2. Spend a day exploring at Heckrodt Nature Reserve in Menasha.
  3. Head out and hunt for bugs. Play Insect Bingo with this printable from Heckrodt Wetland Reserve! Check out one of these local field trips, crafts or activities.
  4. Enjoy a nice Spring day at one of these parks that are woodchip and mulch-free. These soft turf grounded parks are perfect for Spring and avoid most of the water and mud at most parks during this rainy month. Find one here.
  5. Did you spend a winter snow day painting rocks to hide? Time to hide them! Find more about Fox Valley Rocks!
  6. Teach your kids to care for their mother earth and clean up! Here’s a clean-up scavenger hunt guide from Heckrodt Wetland Reserve.
  7. Hit the Batting Cages at Badger Sports Park in Appleton. Also, check out the go-carts and mini-golf to enjoy the nice Spring weather. Monday through Friday, batting cages are all you can hit for $5. Swing batter, Swing!
  8. Take a night off from cooking and dishes at one of the area spots where Kids Eat Free (or Cheap!).
  9. Watch for bald eagles at one of the many great viewing spots in the Fox Valley!
  10.  Visit Heckrodt Wetland Reserve for a fun adventure. Walk on the boardwalk trails (careful, they’re slippery when they are wet!), visit The World Above Your Feet, and check out the giant eagle nest replica. 
  11. As the season starts to change, observe what’s happening with some of these great ideas for engaging with nature
  12.  Hit a trail and sign up for the (free!) 52 Hike Challenge!  
  13. Visit a Little Free Library or Pantry. There are more than 100 on our map!
  14. Sign up for the West Bend Dirty Ninja Mud Run for Kids™!
  15. Learn about the dinosaur fish that swim upstream every Spring to spawn. Sturgeon can be viewed in late April / early May.
  16. Take selfies in front of these Green Bay or De Pere murals.
  17. Cuddle baby animals at a local farm.
  18. Join the Wisconsin State Parks challenge!

  20. Explore at the Building for Kids Children’s Museum in Appleton.
  21. Look for Spring at one of these 12 nature centers 1 hour from Appleton.
  22. Runoff some energy at the Titletown District playground.

  24. Stroll through a local greenhouse and start planning your garden.
  25. Find a bargain at a neighborhood rummage sale
  26. Take a trip to Manitowoc and learn more about Wisconsin’s rich farm history at the Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center.
  27. Walkthrough the CE tunnel in Kimberly and snap a picture at one of these fun murals!
  28. Learn about our weather.
  29. Give your state parks pass a workout by visiting one of these 15 state parks that are two hours away from Appleton or less.
  30. Take a little day trip to check out the dreamy Sculpture Park in Stevens Point.
