It’s August! Find 31 Things to Do All Month Long!

July flew by and we’re ready to close out the summer with loads of fun this August! Here is a list of things to do this month that are FREE or inexpensive for your family.

  1. Meet your local police officers and engage in some community-building fun at one of our National Nights Out!
  2. Soak in a weekend of live, original, and FREE music! You’ll also find daily music education opportunities and play for kids in Downtown Appleton at Mile of Music, August 4 – 7, 2022.
  3. Burger Fest in Seymour – World’s Largest Hamburger Parade, Bun Run, Kids’ Run, music, kids’ games, the Burger Eating Contest, Giant Ketchup Slide, car show, hot air balloons and more August 12-13.
  4. Hit up a fair! There are still some county fairs in August (Winnebago County August 3-7 and Calumet County over Labor Day weekend), or head the Wisconsin State Fair August 4-14.
  5. Declare a beach day! – There are only so many weeks of potential beach days in Wisconsin and we’re reaching the end. Don’t let summer slip by without spending a day at a gorgeous beach.
  6. Indulge in the summer must-have … ice cream! Find 60+ places to find the best ice cream treats.
  7. So many fruits and vegetables are at their peak this month! The markets will be full of great finds. Find a Farmers Market that fits your schedule!
  8. Spend some late summer exploration time at one of the area’s nature centers! They’re perfect for hot days with lots to explore! We recommend Heckrodt in Menasha, 1000 Islands in Kaukauna, Mosquito Hill in New London, or Navarino Nature Center.

  14. Hike in the woods, explore an amazing playground, soak up some summer sun, or explore a museum. Hit the road and check out one of these fun road trips.
  15. You’re about two hours away from a day of adventure in Wausau
  16. There’s something truly magical about sculptures in the woods. Check out Stevens Point Sculpture Park and swing by our favorite ice cream spot before you head home!
  17. Find some Golden Happiness at one of these lovely sunflower fields!
  18. The Wisconsin Dells is the ultimate family road trip destination for loads of family summer fun!

  20. We’re so lucky to be in a location that is near some amazing state parks. A state parks sticker pass is required, but you can also go with a daily pass. Pack a picnic and explore the 26 Awesome State Parks Less than 2 Hours from Appleton.
  21. August can be so hot, but it is always cooler in a cave! Explore the natural beauty and open to the public cave at Cherney Maribel Caves County Park or the Cave of the Mounds!
  22. A free zoo, the beach, lighthouses, and delish ice cream await your visit in Manitowoc!
  23. Menominee Park also has a free zoo and beach, and you can also explore the playground and take a ride on a train!
