The Santa Float visits Neenah and Menasha every year. This route begins on Friday, November 30, 2020, and runs through Friday, December 11, 2020.

Dating back to 1950, the original idea for the Santa Float came from Fire Chief John Zick as a gift to area children. Part of the tradition is the sirens and lights that lead the float and used to warn children Santa is coming! The float runs with the help of off-duty firefighters.

If you don’t live on the Santa float route call up a friend or visit a business or local park on the route, we made notes on some of the days. Predicting the time may be a challenge but each map has mile markers noted. Routes begin at 5:30 and last about 2 or 2 1/2 hours. Make it a fun scavenger hunt to find Santa and check out some holiday lights!

Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, we delayed making any decisions regarding our float as our priority is the health, and safety, of not only our firefighters but for the citizens of Neenah and Menasha.  At this time, the following parameters have been set for us to bring this time-honored tradition:

1 – Covid-19 calls within our two Cities remain high. Our firefighters are doing everything they can to keep themselves healthy and limit their exposures so they can continue to come to work and respond to calls.  With these precautions our cases of staff infected with Covid-19 have been minimal.  However, if an increase of cases begins, and our staffing levels decrease because of this, we may have to cancel the float.

2 – While the float is out, we encourage everyone to stay on their own property and social distance from people who are not in their own household. We will not stop the float for any large gatherings.

3 – We have many requests for the float to stop so Santa can receive treats.  While we appreciate the thought, we cannot stop the float to receive any of these treats this year.

4 – We often have people chasing the float in their car and/or attempting to jump on the moving float. If this happens, we will stop the float for the night.  This causes a very unsafe situation for both our firefighters and the general public.  The float is large and difficult to see around.  We want everyone to be safe.
