An Epic Winter Adventure – Toboggan Run in Stevens Point!

Iverson Park Winter Sports Area in Stevens Point is just an hour from the Fox Valley and invites you for a fun and inexpensive winter adventure for all ages! The typical winter season runs from mid-December through the first week of March, depending on weather conditions and snowfall. This classic family tradition has been entertaining families in Stevens Point since the 1940s! Enjoy tobogganing, ice skating, hot chocolate, sledding, and more for less than $10!

You can purchase your tickets for toboggan rentals in the warming lodge by the concessions. Tickets are $6 for a half-hour or $12 for an hour. Then, take your ticket to the shed outside to pick up your toboggan for your adventure!

Tip: Grab cash on the way or from home, it’s the only way you can pay!

The wooden toboggans are 6-foot or 8-foot and are padded. The staff will recommend the best size for the number of people in your group. Typically, two to four people will fit comfortably on one toboggan, but legend has it the record is six people. We recommend sharing one toboggan for a group or family of three or four.

After you pick up your toboggan, take note of your time and head to the stairs! Depending on conditions and demand, one or both runs will be open. It’s just a short flight of stairs to the top of the lift. You’ll pull your toboggan up on a rubber mat; it’s not too challenging, but it would be hard for younger kids to pull up on their own.

The ride down is fast—about 3 seconds down the 300-foot run. The walk back up is two to five minutes, depending on everyone’s energy. We didn’t have to wait in any lines and were able to go down five times in our half-hour window.

Normal hours for toboggan slides and the warming shelter are (weather-dependent):

  • Fridays: 6 – 9 pm
  • Saturday: 12 – 8 pm
  • Sunday: 12 – 5 pm

Other Winter Things to Do at Iverson Park

There are other things to do to round out your day! Bring your ice skates for skating (rentals are not available). The ice rink is also lit for night skating.

There are three hills for sledding and snowboarding. One hill is designated just for snowboarding and another for sledding and saucers. The third is reserved for children six years old and younger. Helmets are required for the snowboarding hill and often include ramps and jumps built by the park and rec staff.

The park also includes a 2.5-mile cross-country ski trail for daytime use. Snowshoeing more your jam? There is also a 1-mile snowshoe trail.
