Every year in August, as part of Seymour’s Burger Fest, beautiful hot air balloons ascend into the sky. It’s a chance to see these really big balloons up close and personal. There is no charge for the balloon rally and ascensions on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Parking is also FREE at Rock Ledge School and at Rock Ledge Park. Grab your blankets and lawn chairs and head out with the family! There is a park nearby for kids but you might also want to pack some activities as well to occupy the wait.
For more information about Hamburger Fest head over to their website. This weekend festival also includes a parade, kids’ activities, live music, car show and more.

Hot air balloons are certainly a big draw to Burger Fest, but there is a lot more to see and do over the weekend, including a car show, live music, and the “World’s Largest Hamburger Parade”. Participating in the downtown Seymour events on Depot Street requires a wristband. You can purchase reserved concert seating plus general admission tickets prior to arriving, or purchase your wristbands when you arrive at the gate.
Burger Fest is an old-fashioned good time for families with a fun history. Did you know that the hamburger was invented in 1885 by Charlie Nagreen? “Hamburger Charlie” was an industrious teenager who invented the hamburger so fair-goers could continue walking the fairgrounds while eating. Burger Fest celebrates the invention of this American food staple with a whole lot of fun rolled in for a day of family entertainment. Visit the Seymour Community Museum on Depot Street for an in-depth look at the history of Seymour and “Hamburger Charlie”.
