Wicked is Here! 5 Things to Do Before Seeing the Show at the Fox Cities PAC!

Wicked at the Fox Cities PAC

We were so excited to be able to see Wicked as a family at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center. This timeless story is more relevant now than ever as we are celebrating the return of Broadway to Appleton!

Wicked is a Broadway musical that will have you singing both before and after the show. Based on the novel “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West” by Gregory Maguire, the musical is a different perspective of what happened in the Land of Oz. The story is about an unlikely friendship between a popular blond and a timid girl born with emerald-green skin who both grow and evolve while their friendship is challenged.

Get ready for an amazing show! Here are some tips for the ultimate experience!

  1. Listen to the Music!

Find the original Wicked The Musical cast recording music on Spotify or purchase the soundtrack. Listening to the music before the show will familiarize you with the story and you’ll already have a connection with the show! Lyrics can also be found on allmusicals.com.

  1. Watch the Movie

Watching the Wizard Of Oz will refresh your memory of Dorthy’s perspective of Oz! It also helps with all the references.

The movie isn’t currently available on Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime, but can be found streaming on HBO Max, TNT, and TBS. It can also be rented or purchased from YouTube, Vudu, iTunes, Google Play, Redbox, and Amazon. You can also find it at the library!

It is also available on Audible—the version read by Anne Hathaway is completely delightful and our kids loved it. We also found a couple of versions on YouTube.

  1. Get “Emerald” Green

Get your green on! Green mask, green nails, green socks… or just grab a green drink when you arrive! It’s so fun to see everyone’s creativity wearing their Wicked spirit to see the show! Make sure to grab a picture at the photo booth station, the large banner outside, or with your program before the show!

  1. Plan Your Visit

Masks are required to be worn by all patrons while in the venue. All staff and patrons ages 2 and older are required to wear masks while inside of the venue and not actively eating or drinking. Masks must fully cover the nose, mouth, and chin. We appreciated that this is also enforced.

New this year, tickets are touchless! Your phone is your ticket to enter. Be patient and make sure to have extra time planned, the line might be moving a little slower. It helps to have your phone ready to scan! Doors to the Center open one hour prior to the performance. Doors to the theater open 30 minutes prior to the performance

A friendly reminder, carry-ins are not allowed. Plan parking before you go!

  1. Get Ready to Have Fun!

This may require a nap before! The show runs for 2 hours and 50 minutes and includes a 20-minute intermission.

Extend the Discussion

Perspective, friendship and keep getting up are some of the discussions we have been having about the show at home with our family. Here are some starting spots to discuss the show with your family after! If you are looking for more extensive support we also included a study guide and student lesson plan.

  1. Empathy and standing up to bullies.
  2. Don’t judge a book (or friend) by its cover. Things are not always how they seem.
  3. Rumors
  4. Find friendship that lasts forever.
  5. Doing the right thing doesn’t always get rewarded but keep doing them.
  6. Keep getting up. Defy gravity.
