Unique Christmas Gifts that Keep on Giving

holiday gifts

Have you found yourself stumped when someone asks you what you or your family would like for Christmas? Or do you have someone on your list that has everything? My parents ask us every year what we’d like. We don’t really need anything. Well do we? Here is a list of unique gifts that will continue to give all year long and benefit your whole family.

  1. A CSA
A CSA is like a subscription or membership farm club. Each week (or every other week) you pick up your share from a local farmer at a drop location. Usually your share consists of vegetables but sometimes other items are also available like syrup, honey or fruit. Check out our list of some local CSAs recommendations here.
  2. Farm Fun
Our family loves visiting the Mulberry Farm in the summer. An annual pass would be great for animal lovers. Baby animals in the Spring, picnics in the summer and hayrides and pumpkins in the fall – whats not to love?
  3. Annual Membership to the Building for Kids
Having an option for kids to burn off energy in the winter is a wonderful gift for parents. The Building for Kids in Appleton offers two options for annual family memberships. The basic family membership includes free museum admission for unlimited visits (includes permanent and feature/traveling exhibits, art studio, science projects and programs. It also includes special member-only events, discounted even admission and 10% off the store and birthday party packages. The preferred family package includes 50% off admission at participating museums which includes; Green Bay, Fon du Lac, Madison and Milwaukee. Learn more here.
  4. Annual State Park Pass
Purchase a sticker online or by calling the DNR. Visit our beautiful state parks all year round (and use the fast lane when arriving). Visit the Wisconsin DNR’s website for more information.
  5. Help Around the House
Are you too busy to get projects done around the house? Or are you and your spouse not too handy? A handyman would be a great gift! There are some out there that will also clean snow. Here is a list of reader recommendations. Or for the larger projects here is a list of area contractors.
  6. Meat
How nice would it be to have meat in your freezer all year round? Now to find someone to make dinner every night too! Check out this great discussion on our facebook page about grass fed options and recommendations.
  7. Date Night
These seem at times pretty scarce at our home. Id love a babysitter and gift certificate for a good dinner. Here are some suggestions on facebook for romantic dinners or a roundup of recommendations of nice places that wont break the bank here. Not sure what the going rate is for babysitting? Check out this discussion on our facebook page here. There are lots of cute babysitting coupons on pinterest. We like this one.
  8. A Clean House
Who’d like to take a day off from cleaning? Have an extra weekend to enjoy time with the family and not have to worry about scrubbing the floor? Here are a couple of recommendations on our facebook page or if you enjoy cleaning check out Norwex, a healthier and easier alternative for your family.
  9. Animal Sponsorship
The Fox Valley Humane Association is offering holiday sponsorships, Guardian Angels, for animals in shelter care. Sponsorships helps defray the cost to house the animal during their stay including things like food, bedding and medical care. Sponsorship also includes an ornament with the picture of the sponsored pet. More information here.
  10. Tickets
I have never been to a bad show at the Performing Arts Center in Appleton. Its still a treat for me because we don’t go very often. Not only do they have their traditional Broadway series, there Arts Alive! series is unique and has something for everyone – music, dance, culture… Tickets to an upcoming show would not only be fun but a great night out. See all their upcoming shows here.
  11. Family Pictures
Photos last forever and sometimes can get expensive. Gift certificates for sessions and or prints would be super thoughtful. Check out our Photography Guide for Families here.
