Summer Vacations To Fit Your Budget

The summer heat wave has arrived and some of you might be thinking it’s time to get away and take a vacation? We’re here to help you plan your family getaway and not break your piggy bank in the process.

There are plenty of exciting, family-friendly, yet often overlooked summer vacations that are only a few hours or even a few minutes from your front door.

Local Wisconsin County Fairs

For starters, local fairs take place every weekend and in every county across the state. The Wisconsin Association of Fairs provides you a list of all upcoming fairs for 2017. These events offer rides for the kids, fun food options and plenty of live entertainment in an atmosphere that won’t leave your wallet high and dry afterwards.

Local Festivals & Farmer’s Markets

There are also plenty of local festivals and farmer’s markets to get out and enjoy. In Northeast Wisconsin, we are lucky to have a market on every day of the week.

If you’re looking to travel a little farther, the beaches in Door County are a great option. These beaches are some of the cleanest in the state, offering beautiful views along Lake Michigan’s shoreline, including Whitefish Dunes State Park and Cave Point County Park. If you’re looking to enjoy time with family without breaking out your wallet you can have a picnic at the park, hangout on the beach or tour the many shops, events and art galleries throughout the peninsula.

Wisconsin Dells, Waterpark Capital of the World & Six Flags Great America

Don’t forget about the nation’s Waterpark Capital of the World, Wisconsin Dells. Prospera Credit Union sells discounted tickets for Six Flags, Noah’s Ark and Mt. Olympus. The Dells also offers dozens of other waterparks, theme-parks, mini golf and many more options to entertain you and your family during your summer vacation.

Long-Distance Trips

If you want to take a long-distance trip, or visit someplace more extravagant, like Disney World or Universal Studios, make sure you plan early. It’s a good habit to plan and save for vacations at least a year in advance, that way you’re not scrounging for cash at the last minute.

Lastly, have you ever considered the safest way to carry your money? One of the best and safest ways to travel is to carry a small amount of cash and at least two credit cards. Credit cards are often-times protected against identity theft and can’t be stolen and used like cash.

Follow these tips and you’re sure to have a fun and budget-friendly summer!
