Infants & Toddlers

1. Visit a Library for Story Hour

The Fox Valley area offers 6 public libraries that offer story hours available for different age groups on various days of the week. The best part, it is FREE!  Many of the libraries offer specifically designed programs for babies and toddlers with short stories, fingerplays, and short songs. Many of the libraries also offer special events, such as visits to the fire stations or nature centers. Explore the library and check out new books for your babies and toddlers to look at. Get connected with other parents with kids the same age and let your little one explore the world of learning.

2. Take a Parent/Child Class

If you or your little one has a special interest in swimming or music, enroll in one of the many enrichment classes that are offered through Fox Valley organizations. Spend dedicated time with your baby or toddler by learning new songs or motor skills. The area YMCAs, with 6 different locations, offer a variety of classes to promote gross motor development and social skills. Try Lawrence Academy for baby music classes or Wisconsin Swim Academy for swimming.

3. Go to a Park.

Burn off that toddler energy by making frequent visits to a city park. Toddlers love climbing, swinging, running, and exploring new ways to play. And it’s FREE. The Fox Valley offers many expansive parks with wonderful playground equipment that is clean and grounds that are well-landscaped. Many offer smaller playground equipment for your little ones. Check out the top #5 park list to get you started. These lists do not include the smaller neighborhood parks that might be right around your corner.

4. Visit the Children’s Museum

Meet other moms, support groups, or enjoy playgroups at these locations. The Building for Kids on College Avenue in Appleton is an expansive children’s museum with interactive displays and exhibits. If your little one loves it, consider buying an annual membership pass to save money.

 5. Go to a Zoo or Farm

Spend a morning or afternoon at one of three zoos in the area. The New Zoo in Green Bay is the largest zoo of the three offering many exhibits and a train ride. Or check out the Menominee Park Zoo in Oshkosh (FREE admission) for quicker visits. If your little one loves farm animals, check out the FREE Children’s Farm at Plamann Park or Mulberry Lane Farms in Sherwood to get the full farm experience with cows, chickens, and a tour.
